Summer Connections for Middle School Students

Summer Connections (SC) is a summer internship opportunity for Steps to Success middle school students in the 7th and 8th grade. SC interns strive to make a positive difference at their host site and in the larger community.

Each summer, the SC program provides approximately 32 incoming 8th and 9th grade STS students paid summer internships. Students commit at least 20 work hours per week to their host site. Work experience is coupled with academic enrichment courses, subjects which include College Awareness, Job Readiness, Saving Money, & Life Skills. Students formally present and discuss their internship experiences for their SC final project. Internships are funded by STS fundraising programs.

Remember your first summer job or internship? Be a part of a significant and positive first work experience for middle school students. Work Connections for Youth

Work Connections for Youth (WCY) is a Steps to Success summer internship program for Brookline students from low-income families entering their junior and senior year in high school.

With the WCY Program, Brookline High School juniors and seniors from low-income families have the opportunity to experience a professional career internship, an opportunity that would otherwise be unavailable to them. Our interns work 20-30 hours per week for most of July and August, with host employers paying their salaries. WCY provides partnering employers with supervisory orientation and support, visits to the work site to oversee intern progress towards their contracted work-based learning objectives, and materials with which to evaluate interns.

Our Host Employers have returned year after year to participate, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Center Communities of Brookline, Sherrill House, Goldstein & Herndon Law Offices, Larz Anderson Auto Museum, The Country Club, The Copley Group, Peabody Properties and the Emerald Necklace Conservancy.

Every year STS looks to expand work opportunities for Brookline youth from low-income families. Please become a STS Host Employer and make a difference for a motivated high school student this summer!
