Mariano has been an active member of Steps since high school, and is currently a senior at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. When asked about his experiences with Steps to Success, he had this to say:
“My name is Mariano R. Suriel, I’ve been part of STS since moving to Brookline my freshman year of High School. The last seven years have been a wonderful journey.

Through Steps, I’ve been able to pursue great professional opportunities and attend academic conferences, most recently a Skills Workshop hosted by Harvard Medical School. In high school I went on college tours & received help with the college application process. During my senior year I was handpicked to attend the Minority Student Achievement Network conference, which was a good experience. Steps also gave me the chance to see my beloved Red Sox!

Most importantly, STS has provided me with support, guidance, and an understanding of what it takes to succeed. I’m currently an incoming Senior, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Last summer, I worked at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in the Hematology Oncology Lab and acquired an EMT-B Certification at BU. I am excited to finish my final year of college, and cannot wait to share the rest of my journey with Steps.”
