Steps to Success operates on a parent engagement model believing that parent involvement and empowerment is essential to student success. We primarily interact with our parents in four ways:
STS Advisors strive to meet families on their own terms to develop trusting relationships. They conduct home visits to get to know our families away from school, increasing the success of our students.
The STS Parent Council is part of the Steps to Success leadership structure. Its members help advocate for the program, reach out to other STS families, participate in fundraising activities, and play an active role in guiding programming.
For a current list of Parent Council members, please see our Staff & Leadership page.
English for Speakers of Other Languages
Increasing parent participation in education means committing to removing barriers to involvement, which for many includes overcoming language barriers. STS helps family members and other low-income adults with free, community-based English language classes.
Please contact any STS staff member for more information.
Next Steps is a program of the Brookline Housing Authority which provides low-income adults with career counseling services and connects clients to job opportunities, training programs, continuing education, and other vocational resources. The program is linked to workforce development networks in the Boston area and receives client referrals from a variety of Brookline agencies.
