At the high school level, STS students attend weekly classes taught by our High School Advisors as part of their regular school day schedule. Utilizing STS’ four-year, competency-based curriculum, these classes prepare students to succeed in high school and develop a solid post-secondary education plan.
High School advisors provide grade specific academic advising and personal support throughout students’ four years. Targeted skill development includes learning organizational and goal-setting skills, as well as public presentation skills. Advisors are constantly advocating for their students, tracking their progress, and maintaining regular communication with families.
Advisors execute an extensive college preparation curriculum. During their final high school years, students explore college majors and develop a post-secondary education plan. They work with their STS advisor on every aspect of the college application and financial aid process, or other post-secondary option. In addition, STS provides participants with a technology-supported Homework Center for students to receive academic assistance.
In order to prepare students to succeed at Brookline High, HS advisors host a number of transitional workshops for incoming 9th grade STS students and their families. The workshops offer a preview of BHS staff, advisors, extracurriculars, and classes with an opportunity to hear from the experts: STS high school students.
