Welcome to our Family Resources page! Below you will find a variety of resources for Steps parents, caregivers, and family members organized by topic or interest area. We strive to update the page regularly to provide relevant information.

General
On Monday, March 18, 16 community organizations and over 125 youth and adults came together for a night of learning and fun at the BTC. In this document you will find information about and contact information for all of the participating organizations.

Arts and Recreation
Have EBT? You and your family are eligible to visit museums, attend performances, and attend classes or workshops for free or at reduced cost at participating sites in Greater Boston and across the state.
Interested in activities for you and your family related to nature, climate change, and social justice? This Toolkit encourages critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.
Childcare
The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) helps eligible families pay for child care and out-of-school time programs through federal and state programs. You can apply online or in person at Child Care Choices of Boston.
Sitters for Scholars (SFS) - SFS provides free babysitting services to low-income, single-parent families in which the parent is enrolled in a training or education course.
Financial Services
Boston Builds Credit is a city-wide initiative to empower families to build credit, create wealth, and remove barriers to success. The organization offers courses and workshops on credit- building, budgeting, homebuyer readiness, and retirement savings planning.
The Center for Working Families provides financial check-ups, one-on-one financial coaching, and credit and asset-building workshops.
Food
Discover, access, and review food resources near you. The app includes up-to-date hours and locations of free meal sites, grocery programs, food pantries, community fridges and more in Greater Boston. Learn more and download the app here.
Grocery assistance with pickup available at multiple locations across Brookline, including schools and BHA properties.
Housing
Receive support in completing a homebuyer education program, securing down payment assistance, and improving your credit score.
The RAFT program helps keep households in stable housing situations when facing eviction, loss of utilities, and other housing emergencies. RAFT can provide up to $7,000 per household within a 12-month period to help preserve current housing or move to new housing.
Legal Services
Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) and the Volunteer Lawyers Project offer a wide range of legal services, including employment, family law, housing, immigration, and more.
Mental Health, Wellness, and Youth Support
BAGLY is a youth-led, adult-supported social support organization, committed to social justice and creating, sustaining, and advocating for programs, policies, and services for the LGBTQ+ youth community.
CFWC provides culturally competent counseling services to adults, children, and families at home, in school, and within the community.
Utilities
Eligible households can receive help with their winter heating bill through direct payment to vendors.
Households that are not eligible for state or federal energy assistance can receive support paying their monthly energy bill.
Transportation
The MBTA is now offering reduced fares to riders between the ages of 18 and 64 who are enrolled in an approved state assistance program such as MassHealth, SNAP, or TAFDC. Income-eligible CharlieCards can be loaded with the cash value for roughly 50% reduced one-way fares, a $10
7-Day LinkPass, or a $30 monthly LinkPass. It can also be used to purchase tickets for the Commuter Rail, Ferry, and Express Bus. You can apply online through an existing or new MyCharlie account.
